254 SMO

254 SMO

254 SMO is a high-alloyed austenitic stainless steel developed for use in seawater and other aggressive, chloride-containing media. Belongs to the group of superaustenites. The increased molybdenum content and the addition of nitrogen ensure excellent resistance to pitting and crevice corrosion.

The steel has the following properties:

  • Excellent pitting and crevice corrosion resistance, PREN = ≥.0
  • Higher strength than conventional austenitic stainless steels
  • Good weldability
  • High resistance to general corrosion
  • High resistance to acidic solutions
  • High resistance to stress corrosion cracking

Areas of application:

  • Chemical industry
  • Petrochemical industry
  • Pulp / paper industry
  • Seawater and lake water systems
  • Flue gas plants
  • Shipbuilding / Offshore

Standards

  • SA213/SA312 / EN 10216-5 / EN 10217-7
  • SA 403
  • B16.5 / EN 1092-1
  • SA479 / EN 10272
  • Material designation 6MO / 1.4547 / 254SMO / UNS 31254
